Move & Play More Tips

Benefits of exercise as a teen:

  • Build strong muscles
  • Build strong bones
  • Make your heart and lungs healthy
  • Improve how you feel about yourself
  • Help you manage stress
  • Help you become or stay a healthy weight
  • Decrease your risk of certain diseases later in life, such as heart disease, stroke, and certain forms of cancer
  • Being active now makes it easier to stay active throughout your life

Think about how many opportunities you miss to be active during the day:

  • Riding the elevator or escalator rather than taking the stairs
  • Using automatic devices on cars, such as windows and locks
  • Riding in cars instead of walking or riding a bike
  • Using the remote control of the TV set
  • Playing video games rather than playing the game for real

What choices can you make to move more?

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator
  • Ride your bike or walk instead of riding in a car
  • Move during the commercials when you watch TV
  • Help do chores around the house
  • Wash the car
  • Mow the lawn
